In handball Doubles isn't about who is the stronger player its about how the two of you work as a team. Two players with good cooperation and team work can beat any one. But the more I play handball the more I see that some people don't have a clue at how it works in this sport from the strategy point so here are some basics to doubles that everyone should already know. In handball there is the Power side and the Weaker side. For players that are both right hand strong the left is the power side and the right side is the weaker. For Left hand players the Right side is the Power and the Left side is the weaker. The job of the Power side is to make shots and to cover most of the court. Now how much of the court is the power side usually supposed to take? About 80 percent of the court is controlled by the power side. That means he is supposed to take their side, his or her partners weak hand , and the middle of the court. Now this seems like the power side does most of the work but the weak side has a major roll to play also you will see as we go along. The shooter isn't being greed although it may seem this way this is his job to make life hell for the opponents and take the risks. The Weaker side job is to one be back up for the shooter, two set up shots for his or her power player, and three take shots only when he or she has an opening or sees one that is open for them to exploit. This may seem like the weak side is easy to play but this isn't so you have to constantly be on the lookout for the well being of your partner. Like setting up your partner for easier kill shots by moving opponents back with lobs. This will allow your partner to one get better placement for the kill and two be able to block out his opponent. Watching for lobs that your partner can't get to ; that's right you have to get that for him. Also when your opponents force him off the court its your job to cover the middle and your side until your partner can recover. The doubles game in handball may seem like less work because there is less of the court to cover but depending who your playing against it can be more work than a singles game. The reason for this is the volleys. In doubles there are a lot more volleys because there is less court to cover meaning you take a lot more swings. You just run less of a distance but you have to get where your going faster. So if you don't have power , endurance , accuracy, speed and intelligence your game will be over quickly.
