Hello and welcome back to Nothing But handball I know I have not posted anything in a while due to the weather and my finances so please bear with me through these tough times. Okay the date is 6-15-06 the day started out sunny and warm and the games started a little after 5:30 but they got on and some strong games were played. There were a total of 9 teams and two teams bought back in. The best games of the tournament was Cisco and Snuka vs Dave and Steve and Francisco and Rick vs Snuka and Cisco. The first game Cisco and Snuka against Dave and Steve was tight in the beginning Steve and Dave took the lead over Snuka and Cisco 8 - 4. But once the game started rolling on Snuka and Cisco pulled out some strong offense. Dave and Steve couldn't give back this day as good as they got but they gave 200 percent any way final score 21- 14 Snuka and Cisco win. The second game they played was against Wild Man Rick and Francisco this game was off the chart the volleys between the two teams were amazing one volley almost lasted a whole minute and for just one point. Both teams fought like Titians but there can be only one winner. In the beginning of the game Rick and Francisco took the lead over Snuka and Cisco 5- 1. Then held on to the lead all the way to 15- 9. Snuka and Cisco turned on the juice and caught up and past them during the game 17- 15 Snuka and Cisco winning now. Then Rick new it was do or die time because he seem to turn on the Nitro and started to blast the ball with passing shoots and killers giving them 20 - 17. Then it rained and the game stopped for 5 min before they continued. Final score was 21 - 19 Rick and Francisco win. Later on Rick and Fran lose to Izzy and Jerry 21-13. Because it was getting dark the last two teams spilt the money which were Izzy and lefty Jerry from Castle Hill and Black and Eric from Castle hill.
Pee wee And Willies Coney Island Open doubles event

May 27 2006 was the first real day of summer to me because boy it was hot this day in Coney Island and the Players came out to play at PeeWee's and Willies Open Doubles. There were 28 teams that showed up this day to this event but only four stood out from them all with a few surprises to come along. First off Rookie and team mate John lost in the beginning of the tournament and PeeWee and Willie lost also. Leaving room for the other players to take first and second place this day. In Fourth place we have David and George who lost to Oscar and Robert Sostre 21-11, then we have 3 rd Snuka and Irving who lost to Tony Roberts and Dave Rojas 21 -18. Now we have the battle of the Titians going on between Tony and Dave Vs Roberts and Oscar who will win. In the beginning the game started out a little slow put Tony killed the ball on Oscars return two times in the beginning giving his team a short two point lead and at that moment the battles began. Each team was scoring slowly but not leaving to much room for errors to be taken advantage of. But now we fast forward to the end of the game the score is 19 - 17 and Tony and Dave are serving there was a long volley which ended in a a down for Tony and Dave. Dave serves the ball to Robert Sostre and then Dave kills the ball before Robert could do anything about. Finally he says "come on I going to hit this line". Then he serves the ball to Oscar and then the ball hits the long line and dives down it was a surprise to everyone and Oscar too. He tried to hit the ball but all he could do was hit it to the floor with the ball. Game over 21 - 17 Tony Roberts and Dave Rojas take 1st and 700 dollars, and 2 nd Oscar and Robert Sostre take home 300 dollars with 100 for Snuka and Irving 3 rd.
Izzy's Open doubles

Now for the past two weeks on Thursday the rain has been a big problem in the Bronx but this week the clouds held the rain back long enough to start and end the games. On 5/25/06 this tournament was held but thanks to mother nature and constant rain for the last two weeks most of the players that came from Brooklyn and Queens didn't show this week. But who could blame them for most of them its a hour and a half drive or a two hour train ride home. I wouldn't want to be in the Bronx and right in the middle of a tournament and the rain comes and spoils my plans. Hopefully next week will be sunny and warm with a lot of good players. This week there was only 7 teams and the greatest game was played in the first round. By luck the strongest two teams fought in the first round they were Snuka and Cisco Vs. Ray Lopez and Left Henry all A players. It was a tough fight between each team nether of them were give up on winning, for the first 17 points both teams were neck and neck. Then Cisco and Snuka some how started to shooting more and more Ray of course put up a fight with a excellent defense of dives and beautiful shots but in the end Snuka and Cisco won 21- 17. Now with the strongest team next to them down you would think that Snuka and Cisco would fly to the finals but that wasn't to be. Next they fought Dave and Leo and they also gave them a tough time. I have to admit that Dave and Leo played there heart out but they lost 21- 16 a good game played by all. Now to the Final game Rick and Oscar Vs. Snuka and Cisco again a court full of A players but the game seemed like a easy one for Snuka and Cisco it was a massacre Rick and Oscar lost 21- 4.
Cisco's C & D doubles

Today's tournament was in the Bronx at Castle hill on Saturday May 20, 2006. It was a cloud and cool day with sprits of sun shine here and there but in the end games were played. Cisco's tournament had 34 teams this year but only four of them are only worth mentioning. The teams were Brady and Roger who took 4th place and 30 dollars , Andres ( Vigo) & Michel who took 3rd place with 30 dollars and a trophy, 2nd place went to Danny & Al which got trophy and 150 dollars, and 1 St. place went to Mike & Andres Calle ( Playstation) who got trophy and 300 dollars. The final game was something to watch as the young kids from Queens Mike and Playstation took a quick lead in the beginning of the final game 8 - 2. Their opponents tried their best to catch up but there was nothing they could do because the young queens kids took off like a shot 18 - 8. In the end Danny and Al couldn't do much final score was 25 - 13 the queens boys take the tournament.
Brooklyn's in house at Izzy's Open doubles

On 5/4/06 a number of Brooklyn's finest came out to the Bronx to play in the tournament only with other A players like Joe , George , Ray Lopez , Rick and Snuka. Today there where a total of 16 teams to play in this weeks event but all and all there where great games. Like for instances Ricky and Eric took out Ray and partner and George and Snuka lost to Joe and David. The only problem was there wasn't enough light and the finally game couldn't be played at the park which meant that they would go to Van Courtlyn or Split the prize money. The final teams where Joe and David from Brooklyn and Christian and Burney so they split the prize money.

This was the first tournament of Izzy's Open doubles that is every Thursday at 4:30pm The first tournament was a little light today with only 6 teams today but the 200 dollar prize was still there. This was better then last years first open day tournament where only 3 teams showed up in 2005. In the semi finals it was Cisco and Snuka vs. Lenny and brother Danny. Lenny a new A player for this year was holding his own against them but he didn't have enough support from his brother Danny final score 21-11. Now to the final game it was A players team Cisco and Snuka vs. C player team Lorenzo and Kham from Parkside this day luck was on these boys side to take them to the finals. The boys from the home court won there first game then got them a by to take them to the finals. But when they where playing their luck was up it was massacre the final score 21 - 2.
Caesar Open event

Hello and welcome back to Nothing but handball today's tournament was at Coney Island on 4/2/06. It was a Caesar open event with 25 different teams and prizes of 1500 dollars. Now there was a lot of good players in the tournament put only a few stood out more then the rest. Now 4th place was taken by Ray Lopez and partner, 3rd place was taken by Tony Roberts and Irwin , 2nd Place went to Pee Wee and Willie who lost to Rookie and Henry who took First place. Final score was 21 -19 In the final game it took a little while to get Pee Wee and Willie rolling in the beginning because they were losing at first 13-5 to Rookie and Henry. Then Pee Wee sucked it up and started to play it was do or die time then came back with a score of 18-18. Finally Pee Wee and Willie took the lead 19-18 but then Rookie made a call under Pee Wee's legs and but I didn't see the ball hit him but the judge seem to so they went down. Rookie then finished the game off 21 -19 Rookie and Henry win.
