Cisco's B doubles a smash hit in the Bronx 10/01/05

The Bronx was jumping on Saturday 10/1/05 when Cisco kicked off his B's doubles event.  This year he had a good crowd of people this year to play in his tournament.  There were 32 teams and buy backs for the first round only. First prize was 450 and Trophy second prize was 250 and Trophy and third was trophy.  This years winners was Rick and Burney and they deserved it.  They were playing at the top of there game specially Wildman Rick it seemed liked he was killing everything to the left hand Conner with a nice spike.  Second place went to Irving and his Brother, and last went to Big man Frank and Partner.

Coney Island Mixed Doubles 10,000 dollar tournament is a Huge event 10/24/05

This was a huge tournament there was reports of 48 teams that came to this event but there where only four teams who would take home prize money.  Now the last four teams were George and Veronica , Pee Wee and Brenda , Shaheem and Partner  , Rookie and Gladys.  Rookie took out George and Pee Wee took out Shaheem.   Then the played a promo game which was Ray Lopez and Cesar Sala vs Oscar and Robert  Sotre with the winner getting 2 thousand dollars and a paid way to the event for 25 thousand this year.  The winners of that was Cesar and Ray score 21-19 a great game that was. Then George and Shaheem had to see who would win 3rd and 4th prize.  It was George and Veronica who won 3rd and 1500 dollars Shaheem and Partner won 1000. Now on to the finals it was Rookie and Gladys vs Pee Wee and Brenda the winner would take home 10 thousand dollars.  This game was a crime it seemed like Rookie was trying to bring it to Brenda this game like he did to every one else before them.  But Brenda wasn't having it she fought back as best as she could but it wasn't enough.  They lost 25-17 the final score Rookie and Gladys win the 10 thousand dollar prize and Pee Wee and Brenda took home 3 thousand dollars.

This weeks Thursday event is free at Parkside.10/22/05

Hello everyone and thank you for coming back to NBH for your reviews of this years handball events.  Well this week at Parkside Izzy's Thursday event was free for all to play for the 200 dollar pot.  There were 10 teams that played this week it seemed like players were coming out of the wood work just to play when they found out it was free.  But thanks to the quick sun set and the dark the tournament was called due to light issues.  So the final teams Snuka and Cisco vs  Rick and Oscar had to split the 200 dollar pot this week.

Grand Street China Town B, C team event  Report 9/17/05

This was a really good day I found free parking in Manhattan but enough about me on to the sports.  This tournament had a good turn out it had 24 teams but that was the end of it.  After that they didn't want to let any more teams enter because of the lost of day due to this time of years shorter days.  But any way there where good teams every where now in the final three teams we have , Jose (aka Mickey from the Bronx) and Cricket , Jay and Some Huge Kid, and two players I never seen before one Asian and a looking Mexican guy  but damn they where good.  Well at the end it was a lotto drawing to see who plays who from the three teams and Mickey and Cricket got lucky they got the by to the finals leaving a tired Jay and team mate to play they lose 21- 18.  The finals beginings but at this time it was getting dark so due to the light problem and the players complaning about it they all split the money.  It would have been 300 first 200 second and 100 third but 500 dollars was split to the the teams of Mickey and Cricket, and the Asian and a looking Mexican guy.

Cisco and Oscar take Thursday tournament 9/1/05

Thursday was a good day in the Bronx to Play handball and that's what happened. There were 11 teams  at the tournament at this weeks tournament and one team bought back in.  But only one did the job to win the 200 dollar prize.  It was Cisco and Oscar that had a easy first game but after that it was a battle.  They went through Angel and Mark the first time winners, Izzy and Rolland, and finally Lenny and Partner.  It was a good game at first before they went to Van Courtland Lenny and Partner were losing but with the lights at Van Courtland that changed.  Lenny and partner where then winning 18 -10 Lenny was playing like a monster but Cisco and Oscar got a second wind and came back and won 25-20.

Izzy Thursday event at Park side 8/25/05

Sorry people no pic's for this event I had to leave early and I usually take pic's of the last game.  Well this time the event had 12 teams and the big dogs from last week came again.  But for all of you Bucky fans he wasn't there.  As usually there were so excellent handball games with very few arguments during the day but what happened at the night I don't know.  The tournament was started in Parkside and ended at Van courtland.  The finally two teams of this event was Lil Eddie and Lefty Hennry vs Roland and Web.  Sorry guys but for all of you who were routing for the Bronx it wasn't going to happen it was Lil Eddie and Lefty Hennry who took the event this two A player monsters took it this week and last week called it a tie because of the dark.

Thursday Tournament called  a tie because of the darkness

On Thursday August 18 2005 Izzy's second week day Tournament was held and big dogs showed up to get the two hundred dollar prize money.  There was 16 teams and buy backs till the semi finals but we will make this short.  Okay the because it was getting late the final game couldn't be held but the final teams where Bucky and Roland  and Little Eddie and Lefty Henry.  So the two teams split the prize money.

Angel and Mark take Izzy's first Thursday Open team Tournament

On Thursday August 12,2005 Izzy held his fist Thursday tournament which first prize was 200 dollar for the first place team.  It seemed that no one that he told at first believed it but he held it as promised. There where only three teams he wanted to get more but some people left and he held out as long as he could.  So he made it a double elimination event now the players where , Baby Bird and Danny, Angel (cop) and Mark, and Freddy and Mickey Mouse (Hose).  In the beginning it looked like Mickey and Freddy was going to win the hole thing they beat both teams with no problems.  So it looked like Angel and Mark had some work to do to make a come back.  After their lose and a little rest Angel and Mark took out Bird and Danny, then beat Freddy and Mickey two times straight final score of the last game was 21-9.  It was a amazing come back by Angel and Mark and so they walked off with 200 dollars that's 100 dollars a man.  Now for all of you who don't know this will be held Every Thursday at Parkside Handball courts every Thursday and a Singles event will be coming for that day soon.

Rick and Mario take the 137 St Willis tournament 7/30/05

Well this tournament wasn't really promoted very well we found this one out through the grape vine.  But it was nice for the first one that we are posting here.  The tournament had 15 teams and the entry fee was $6 and that's low any tournament.  But even though it was small a few big dogs came through from the Bronx.   Well any way the final game was Wildman Rick and Mario from Arthur Park vs.  Lefty Anthony and Gabriel the came was pretty close the game started off with Rick and Mario taking a big lead of 8 to 2 then Anthony and Gab came back and past them 9 - 14.  After this Rick had to put on the juice and played all over the place and the put them ahead to 21-18.  Then Gab and Ant had used the new strategy attack Mario for sometime this was working and they tied the game 24 - 24 but in the end Mario and Rick but they wanted them to win by two so the final score was 31-28 Mario and Rick win first place and 100 dollars and Ant and Gab take second with 50 bucks.

No One around to Stop George at King of the Courts

This years King of the Courts was rather dull due to most of  New York's strongest players going to Florida for the 10 thousand dollar tournament.  This in turn caused problems with this years outing.  There where only 32 players this year and two disqualifications due to lateness.  Justin and Reggie both disqualified due to late arrivals. This year was George's year hear  at King of the Courts because no one but Rookie was his better because he was off in Florida.  So this year no one was around to stop George from dominating.  All of his games he crushed everyone he played.  Ray Lopez tried his best but couldn't do it either.  First place went to George $1000 , Second went to Ray Lopez $500 , Third went to Joe from Brooklyn Terrace $300 , forth went to Wally from PA, and fifth went to Bobby Byrd 6 th Larry D.  I won't say any more because I really went to far by going to fifth place.

B Pyramid and Opens at Edison park in Queens        (Sat 7/2/05)

This years B Pyramids was pretty good it had 20 players but of course there can only be one winner there was some strong players like Carlos , Tee Tee, Angel (The cop), Izzy , Sean, John, enter but the winner was a a 19 year old kid named Jay from Queens leaving all of his opponents under 10.  Jay beat Angel 21- 8 making Angel 3rd place 50 dollar prize, then beat Sean 21-7 leaving Sean to take second place and 100 dollar prize making Jay first place with 200 dollar prize good work man.  Now we move on to the Open even witch had only 12 player a few players from the first even played in the second event also like John and Izzy.  The winner of the opens turned out to be John from Brooklyn ( Lincoln terrace Park) he had to play some tuff games but in the end he won.  He beat  Geo (aka Lil Rook) 21-11, He beat Izzy 21 - 17 and he beat Reggie 21 - 20 after those games he was dead tired. So the results are Tyrone for third $50, Reggie for Second $100, and John for first $300 .

Briarwood in Queens Singles and Doubles event

(Sat 6/18/05)

I am sorry lady and gentlemen about not give any better details about this event.  All I have is the results because I got some real bad info about how to get to this park which turned out to be wrong from my Yahoo maps.  Well any way   Dito from Parkside the Bronx took the singles event walking away with a cool $200 dollars for first place 21-17 and the Doubles event was won by Justin from Lincoln Park Terrace and his partner some girl who I never seen before but boy this girl was good final score 21-13.  Sorry guys got there very very late could only get the end results.

This was a two day event that took place all over the City it started on on June 11 and finished on June 12.  The results were rather surprising this year in the men's Opens.  First off the top players from around the city were in this even but one player stood out more then ever this year and his name is Shaheem Nelson.  This year more then any he proved why he is a A Player without a doubt.  Not only did he win this event he had to bet all of the major players to do it.  He beat Cisco of the Bronx  21-20,  Rookie 21- 16, and final he beat George in the finals 21- 16. This was Shaheems day to shine and I hope he can keep up the good work.  Moving right along Jamie and Pauly took the men's Open doubles event  beating Pee wee and Willie, Angel the cop took the Men's B singles , Justin and his partner Cell took the B doubles, Women Open was won by Brenda Pares and Partner , Women's B doubles Vanessa Smith and Partner and Women's C was won by Tami from the Bronx and Men's C singles  by Victor from the Bronx.
